Why Leading Carpet Retailers Choose Carpet Logistics
Running a successful flooring retail business means your energy should be on the showroom floor — not managing installers, chasing warehouse stock or handling post-installation complaints. Carpet Logistics exists to take that entire burden off your hands. As Melbourne's only fully independent carpet installation and logistics partner, we have no alignment to any flooring group or competing retailer, which means our sole focus is making your business run better.
With over 40 retailers across every major flooring group already trusting us to represent their brand in customers' homes, we bring proven systems, proprietary scheduling software, and a team of highly trained professional layers who install to required standards on every single job. Whether you need warehousing for 2,000+ rolls, a reliable store-and-cut service, or a seamless installation team that communicates directly with your customers, we plug straight into your operation with minimal disruption. When your customers are happy, your reputation grows — and that is exactly what we are here to help you achieve.
You got into carpet retail to sell great flooring — not to chase installers, manage warehouse stock, or field angry calls when a job runs late.
But here's the reality most Melbourne carpet retailers live with every day:

Finding reliable, professional installers is a constant battle
-

-
Growth means more overhead, more headcount, more risk
The more you grow, the harder it gets to keep everything under control.
That's exactly the problem Carpet Logistics was built to solve.

Pricing
How much does it cost to have carpet installed?
Cost depends on several factors: area to be carpeted, carpet weight, underlay choice, sub-floor preparation required, stairways, furniture removal, and take-up of existing floor coverings. Carpet wastage can also be as high as 15% in many homes due to room dimensions. Our team will provide a per-metre price inclusive of the underlay you select.
Is there a minimum installation charge?
Our minimum carpet installation charge is $250.
Do you charge for removing old carpet?
Yes. The cost of take-up and removal is provided upfront when you book.
Installation — General
How long does a carpet installation take?
Our layers can normally install carpet for an average house in a day. Larger or more complex projects, including commercial fitouts, may take longer.
How should carpet be installed to ensure the best result?
All carpet should be professionally installed in accordance with Australian Standards. All carpets should ideally be power-stretched — without this, wrinkling may occur. The carpet pile should run in the same direction throughout the home, sweeping toward the main entrance, with seams running in the direction of most foot traffic. On staircases, the pile sweeps down with extra carpet folded back at the top and bottom of each stair. Our layers offer vacuuming on completion to check joins and finish detail.
What types of carpet do you install?
We install all types: standard twist, loop pile, plush, and specialist high-end wool carpets including Axminster. We work with all major carpet manufacturers including Victoria Carpets, Godfrey Hirst, Feltex, Cavalier Bremworth, Prestige Carpets, Tuftmaster, Interface, Brintons, and Beaulieu.
Do you vacuum after installation?
Our carpet layers offer vacuuming on completion by request, which also gives them an opportunity to check joins and finish details.
What happens if there is an issue after installation?
Whilst our installers take every care, issues can occasionally be missed. Our customer service team will arrange a warranty follow-up call within 48 hours of the issue being reported.
Installation — Preparation
What should I do before the installers arrive?
- Strip all bedding before the team arrives
- Remove breakable items from shelves, tabletops, and closet floors
- Disconnect and remove TVs, computers, and entertainment systems
- Vacuum your old carpet the night before to minimise dust
- Ensure power points are accessible and working
- Ensure the area is well ventilated — open doors and windows where possible
- Keep children and pets away from the installation area
Who moves the furniture?
Our two-man teams can carefully move and return furniture where required. Disconnect all electronics, clear tabletops and bookshelves, and remove breakable items before the team arrives.
Can installers move heavy items like a piano or pool table?
Heavy or cumbersome items such as pianos, pool tables, and aquariums may attract an additional charge. Discuss at the time of booking.
What if my doors no longer close after installation?
Some doors may need trimming after installation to accommodate the new carpet thickness. This is the customer's responsibility to arrange separately.
What about skirting boards and mouldings?
It may be necessary to remove and reattach mouldings during installation. Breakage of fragile mouldings is possible. Discuss specific concerns with our team beforehand.
What if my subfloor is damaged?
All carpets must be installed over a structurally sound subfloor. Any timber damaged by water, insects, or other factors should be repaired before installation day.
What happens to moisture or damp subfloors?
Concrete subfloors must be dry before installation. Damp subfloors can affect adhesive bond and carpet performance. If in doubt, advise our team when booking.
Take-Up & Old Carpet
Do you remove old carpet and floor coverings?
Yes. Our installers remove existing floor coverings and dispose of them off site. The cost is provided upfront at the time of booking.
Do I need to remove my old carpet myself?
No — take-up is part of our service. An additional fee applies, which will be confirmed at booking. Do not remove the smooth edge (carpet gripper strips) around the perimeter — leave these in place.
Underlay
What underlay should I use?
Underlay is the cushioning layer installed underneath your carpet. Foam underlay is the most popular option, available from 7mm (budget) up to 12mm (premium). A 7mm standard foam such as Airstep Stepezy is a budget-friendly option; high-density 8–12mm options such as Airstep Stepmax and Steplux provide superior comfort and support. Rubber underlay is also available for specific applications.
Can I reuse my existing underlay?
We strongly advise against it. Most carpet manufacturers void their warranty if carpet is laid over old underlay. Replacing underlay ensures your new carpet performs and lasts as intended.
What underlay brands do you supply?
We supply all major underlay brands from Airstep and Dunlop Flooring.
Carpet Selection
Why choose carpet for my home?
Carpet is the ideal flooring for bedrooms, playrooms, studies, and family rooms. Benefits include warmth, comfort, noise reduction, and a softer feel underfoot compared to hard flooring.
What are the benefits of wool carpet?
Wool is a natural, renewable, and sustainable fibre. It is soft, durable, resilient, naturally soil-resistant, and provides excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. It performs extremely well in residential settings.
What are the benefits of nylon carpet?
Nylon is a synthetic fibre offering good durability at a more affordable price point than wool. It performs well in higher traffic areas.
What about wool blend carpet?
Wool blends are typically 80% wool and 20% synthetic fibre, providing the best of both worlds — the natural feel and resilience of wool combined with the durability and cost benefit of synthetic fibres.
What are the main carpet styles?
- Cut pile — loops are cut producing an upright pile with a formal, luxurious look. Comes in two main types: twist pile (more hardwearing, maintains its finish better) and plush/velvet pile (softer look, can show tracking from vacuum and foot traffic)
- Loop pile — loops are left intact, creating a smooth, textural feel with design versatility. Comes in level loop and multi-level loop styles
- Cut and loop — a combination producing patterns and textured effects
Commercial Installation
Do you provide commercial carpet installation?
Yes. We have extensive experience across all commercial sectors including offices, retail stores, hotels, schools, healthcare facilities, aged care centres, and clubs.
What types of commercial carpet do you install?
We install commercial broadloom carpet and carpet tiles across all commercial sectors, working with all major manufacturers including Interface, Victoria Carpets, Godfrey Hirst, Feltex, and Brintons.
How is commercial installation different from residential?
Commercial jobs require specialised adhesives, thorough sub-floor preparation, and often project management to minimise disruption. We can work after hours and around operational schedules.
What are the advantages of carpet tiles in offices?
Carpet tiles are increasingly popular for Melbourne offices. They allow partial coverage, easy spot-replacement of damaged tiles, design flexibility, and can incorporate cushion-backing for acoustic and underfoot comfort benefits. They can also be installed in patterns using modular tiles.
What should I consider when selecting commercial carpet tiles?
- Suitability — check the ACCS rating (e.g. Commercial Extra Heavy Duty) against your foot traffic requirements
- Durability over aesthetics — cushion-backed tiles protect carpet fibres from crushing underfoot; hardback tiles transfer all pressure to the fibres
- Installation cost — floor preparation and installation costs often dwarf product price differences
- Buy extra tiles — always purchase spares for future spot replacement
- Lifetime cost — lower cost tiles may cost more over time in replacement and installation
- Carpet weight — high pile weight doesn't always mean better durability; shorter fibres are generally more durable under foot traffic
- Acoustic properties — cushion-backed tiles reduce noise in open-plan offices
- Modular tiles — offer design flexibility with patterns and colour combinations not typically available in broadloom
What carpet backing options are there for office carpet tiles?
Hardback tiles carry all foot traffic pressure in the carpet fibres. Cushion-backed tiles compress under foot traffic, protecting the fibres and extending the life and appearance of the carpet. Cushion-backed tiles also provide better acoustic performance.
Do you handle large-scale or multi-stage commercial projects?
Yes. Our project management service covers planning, scheduling, and multi-stage installation for large commercial projects, coordinating directly with builders, project managers, and fit-out contractors.
Retailer Partnerships
How does the retailer partnership model work?
The retailer closes the carpet sale. We handle all back-end logistics — stock receipt, warehousing, cutting, customer confirmation, scheduling, and installation — all under the retailer's brand where required.
Which retailers do you currently work with?
We partner with over 40 retailers across all major flooring groups including Choices Flooring, Carpet Court, Floorworld, Flooring Extra, Harvey Norman, Bargain Carpets, Designer Rugs, and a number of independent retailers.
Can retailers use just warehousing without installation?
Yes. Our Store & Cut service provides stock receipt, storage, cutting, and dispatch to a retailer's own installation team, without requiring our installation service.
What are the financial benefits of partnering with Carpet Logistics?
Retailers typically save $90,000–$120,000+ per year by eliminating storeman wages and on-costs ($50,000–$75,000), equipment and maintenance ($10,000–$15,000), and additional premises rent ($30,000+).
Warehousing & Storage
What does the warehousing service include?
- Receipt, storage, and inventory tracking of carpet, timber, vinyl, and underlay
- Pre-cutting to installer specifications before each job
- Dispatch with job sheets to installer vans
- Bin provision for old carpet and underlay disposal
- Stock level monitoring and reporting
Do you offer stock level reporting?
Yes. Our system provides detailed stock reports on all products in storage. We can monitor forward bookings and reorder underlay as required.
Carpet Layer Jobs
Are you looking for carpet layers?
Yes — we are always looking for experienced, reliable carpet layers to join our network on a subcontract basis across Melbourne.
What do I need to work with Carpet Logistics?
A current ABN, Public Liability Insurance, and a White Card for commercial site access. Solid experience in residential and/or commercial carpet installation is required.
How does payment work?
Installers are paid on a per-broadloom-metre basis. Weekly invoices are submitted and payment is made on a regular, reliable cycle.
